Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Taligence?

Taligence, founded in 2023, is a New York-based executive search firm specializing in the placement of Chief Marketing Officers (CMOs) and their direct reports.

Why does Taligence publish this report?

Our reports are designed to help employers, senior marketers, and job seekers better understand industry trends, optimize career planning, and make informed decisions about talent management.

What are the data sources for the report?

We gather insights from multiple sources:
- Direct: RSS feeds, Google Alerts, social listening, and inbound leads from our network.
- Partners: Crystal (personality insights), Draup (AI-powered talent intelligence), and LinkedIn.

Is there a geographic focus?

While most global CMOs are hired in the U.S., we also feature appointments from around the world, including New Zealand, India, Malaysia, the UK, and the Netherlands.

Are only Fortune 500 companies included?

No, we include both public and private companies with a minimum headcount of 200 employees.

What industries are covered in the report?

The report is industry-agnostic, encompassing a broad range of sectors categorized into 13 groups, including: Automotive, Biotech/Pharma/Healthcare, Construction, CPG, Financial Services, Government, Hotel and Travel, Manufacturing, Media/Sports & Entertainment, Professional Services, Restaurants, Retail, and Tech.

Does the report include CMO-adjacent roles?

No, we focus exclusively on the Chief Marketing Officer role.

Are regional CMOs included in the report?

Only CMOs with a global scope are included. Regional CMOs are featured only in cases where there is no central global marketing leadership.

Are all global CMO moves featured?

Not all moves are included due to:
- Language constraints: We report only on English-language press releases.
- Company size constraints: We cover companies with a headcount of 200 or more.
- For unreported updates, we track LinkedIn alerts through Sales Navigator.

How is "Diversity" defined in the report?

In the report, "Diversity" is defined based on public declarations confirming an individual's belonging to an underrepresented group, such as ethnic minorities or the LGBTQ+ community. Gender diversity is addressed separately, so "diversity" in this context typically refers to ethnic or other groups. It's important to recognize that this approach is an approximation, and actual diversity metrics may vary.

As this is a global report, diversity is also contextual with the location of the appointment. We distinguish between local hires within their home country and international hires. For instance, a CMO hired in India who is of Indian nationality is not counted as diverse because they are working within their country of origin. However, if an Indian national is hired into a CMO position in a different country, such as the US or UK, they are considered diverse because they represent international or cross-cultural hiring practices. This approach emphasizes global mobility and diversity in leadership roles beyond national boundaries.

What is DISC personality analysis?

DISC is a behavioral assessment tool categorizing individuals into four traits: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness.
The DISC personality assessment is widely used across the globe, particularly in workplace environments, education, and personal development settings. Its popularity stems from its simplicity, versatility, and effectiveness in improving communication, teamwork, and understanding of behavioral dynamics.
